Eric Volz moved to Nicaragua in 2005 to begin publishing a bilingual magazine with a friend. Eric met and formed a relationship with Doris Jimenez, a beautiful young woman who owned a shop in a small beach town. A year later Eric moved to Managua and the relationship ended, although the two remained close friends.
In November of 2006, Eric received a phone call telling him that Doris had been brutally murdered in her shop. Eric immediately left Managua to grieve with the family and friends of Doris. He was shocked when a few days after the funeral he was arrested for her murder.
This captivating story is an account of the many months Eric spent in Nicaraguan prisons where he endured lynch mobs and harsh treatment by the guards. His release was only secured by the assistance and hard work of many concerned friends and family members, along with the support of the U. S. government. Included with the book is an access code for an archive which contains detailed documents and information from the trial. This is a fascinating book, and, as Bill Kurtis says in the foreword "Eric Volz is a graphic reminder that one's rights as an American citizen end at our borders. His story should be issued with every passport."
